Super Cool

was thinking there needed to be something in the bottom left corner, but after a few days, I think I'm happy with how it is... After all, a very wise crafter once said "if you keep fussing with a project, leave it!" (thanks Karen G!).Thursday, April 14, 2011

Happiness
This fortnight over at jac-inks Papercraft Challenges, the challenge is to use any combination of the current In Colours. So, I used the colour of Luana's dress as inspiration and used Blushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz for this page (with a hint of Early Espresso) - gorgeous combo if I do say so myself! I used markers to ink up 'happiness' from the Tres Chic (retired) background stamp for the title and the flower down the bottom was created using the fabulous line flower from Punched Posies, which is only available until tomorrow! I am really happy with how this page turned out - pure happiness! Thanks for visiting. Stamps: Tres Chic (retired), Punched Posies (Level 2 Hostess - Summer Mini), Great Friend Card: Blushing Bride DSP, Early Espresso, Whisper White Ink: Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz Other: Scallop Trim Border Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Clear Rhinestone Brad

First Dance Concert
Today I have one of my favourite pages that I did of Luana just before her first dance concert. She was SO excited!! As her hair is so curly (and short then) I wasn't able to put it up in a 'proper' ballerina bun, so I curled it as tight as I could. She adored dressing up and wearing make up too! I was a VERY proud Mum that night, albeit a little sad as Paul couldn't make.
I have had this page done for quite some time, but not posted it. Stampin' Royalty gave me the prompt this week with their scrapbooking challenge! Thanks girls.
Scrapping this page was a little harder than I first thought; I think it was the shimmery dress, so I ended up with a black background with Brushed Silver, Tempting Turquoise and Melon Mambo highlights, and lots of Dazzling Diamonds!! My memory is a little fuzzy at the moment, so I won't write a recipe, but if you want details, let me know and I'll put them in.
Must head off to bed as we're back to work tomorrow after the long weekend.
Thanks for visiting!

Birthdays are Always Sweet
On a completely separate note, we went to the Show today and Luana had a great time - patting cows, checking out the other animals, slipping over in the mud (ok, not such a great time then....), playing on a HUGE bouncy 'castle', collecting stamps and goodies for the Yellow Brick Road Showbag (and whatever else she could score) and riding on the same ride (a train convoy thing) she has chosen for her ride every year since she has been able to make a choice!!
Hope you're having a great weekend too! Thanks for visiting.

Luana and Pop
We don't get to see Paul's Pop very often (actually, we've only seen him 3 times since Luana was born), and Luana is his only great grandchild, so the time we spend with him is super special; I know it drives Paul's Auntie nuts, but I try to take as many photos as possible when we're with them.Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Is there anything better than Chocolate?
These colours from Keesh are FANTASTIC and gave me the perfect excuse to pull out my retired Loves Me DSP and the coordinating Flirty ribbons. I have another project in mind for these colours, but will have to see if I have the time to make it . I thought the ribbon was a cheeky way to add the 'scallops' from Taylor's sketch too, as it's a bit frilly :)

A Couple More Non-Card Projects

Two Reasons to Smile
First up is the 6"x6" calendar page for Mum and Dad's calendar (yes, this is the first page I've done, and yes I know it's over half way through January). I thought the latest Colour Throwdown colours worked well with this gorgeous photo of Luana holding her cousin 'baby Max' (the first time she held him all on her own!!).
I have substituted Pixie Pink for Melon Mambo and I can't remember if non-card projects qualify, so my apologies if they don't.I kept the page VERY simple. I kept thinking I need to add something, but I think it works as it is. The greeting hasn't come up well in the photo, but it's from the retired set Reason to Smile. I inked it in Old Olive first, then took the ink off 'you' and 'smile' with a blender pen, and inked those words with a Pixie Pink Stampin' Write marker. The rest is quite self explanatory.
I guess this is a good example of K.I.S.S!! (Keep it simple Sam!)
Stamps: Reason to Smile (retired), Burst into Bloom (retired)
Card: Old Olive, Pixie Pink, Whisper White, So Saffron
DSP: Walk in the Park (retired)
Ink: Old Olive, Pixie Pink

Touching Base
Our first full weekend here we went to Desert Park. Luana loved the birds and the nocturnal house. She's checking out the mala in this photo.
Hopefully over the next couple weeks I will have a bit more to share with you. I have had every intention of playing in a few challenges in the last week or so, but my bed has had a stronger calling!! I have seen the new Summer Mini (launching 1st December) and I LOVE IT!!! Seriously, I think this is the best Mini yet! So when I place my order, I am SO looking forward to playing.
For those of you here in Alice, I'm going to have a Christmas Stamp-a-Stack in the next few weeks. If you would like to join me, drop me a line here.
Until next time (no promises when....), have fun!!

Luana's Birthday Creations
I wasn't quite sure what theme to go with this year for her invites and ended up using Keesh's favourite colour combo (Regal Rose, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip) and Crazy for Cupcakes as inspiration. I posted a card in August that didn't quite make the cut for Miss Luana's card...
The next challenge was the card...
Luana had chosen a Bluh-fly (Butterfly) birthday cake, so I just had to pull out Bold Butterfly for her card. I used the Flitting By wheel on her first birthday invitations. I stamped off the solid base of the butterflies and flowers and stamped the outline detail in first generation, adding some sparkle to the butterflies (3 of course!). Clear rhinestone brads finished off the 3 flowers. I used second generation Pink Pirouette with the flower outline to add a bit of interest to the Whisper White circle the chipboard 3 was mounted on. The 3 was covered with Bella Rose DSP, the edges were sanded and inked with Chocolate Chip before mounting. After trying a few different cards, I was quite happy with this one!
Here's our family pic from the big day - I kept with the pink and orange theme for the cake too!! Luana loved it - what more can you ask for?!
As I mentioned a few posts ago, the reason for my lack of inspiration and blogging lately will become apparent soon... and the time is now. A few weeks ago, we found out VERY unexpectedly that Paul had been offered a short-term contract position in Alice Springs (for those of you not in Australia - 1200km south of Katherine, around about the middle of Australia). This had not ever been even an outside thought in our life plan so this offer threw our lives into turmoil - what to do?! In the end, it worked out I could transfer to a locum position down there, so we decided (VERY quickly) to take the plunge and move down the track to keep our little family together. Who knows where we will be early next year?! Anyone with a crystal ball is more than welcome to throw any hints our way! Consequently, life has since been mad with packing, contract negotiations, trying to find a place to live and trying to find child care for Miss Luana, as well as everything else that goes with moving.... It is slowly taking shape, but I think I will be relieved when we're finally all down there.

Cocoa Daisies
We had a lovely day paddling (me slipping on wet rocks into the water!), laughing and picnicking, only to find out just as we were walking back we'd only made it to Long Hole Pool, not Sweetwater Pool like we had intended... that was still a further 2km on. Oh well, it was a lovely spot to pass a few hours and we'll head back to Sweetwater when Luana is a bit older and won't have to be on Paul's shoulders quite so much!
